Advantages of Electric Car: Low maintenance, low energy use, quick off the line, quiet, zero air pollution, no oil spills, no oil leaks, fun, EV Grin, no OPEC support, one day feeding back into the grid, becoming part of a future trend now.
Lowered Maintenance: One of the big plusses about owning an EV is lowered maintenance. This is due to the fact that the electric motor is way less complicated
and has way fewer moving parts than the internal combustion engine. This equals a lot
fewer visits to shop mechanics for parts and repairs to the engine and related systems.
Lowered Energy Use: Electric cars are much more efficient than gas powered cars. This means a lot less energy use. In fact, gas powered cars waste about 2/3 of the energy in their tanks.
Quick off the Line: The instant availability of torque is considered by most to be one of the advantages of electric car. If a powerful electric motor is configured to a powerful battery pack, the result is burning rubber. Not all electric cars are configured for speed, but there are plenty out there if you want one.
Quiet: Now this may depend on your point of view, but we would find it easier to sleep in some days if the neighbors drove electric cars. Electric cars are famous for being quiet. More electric cars would ease a lot of traffic noise unless, like some, you prefer it. In either case, it is a fact that excessive noise pollution is not healthy.
Advantages of electric car? There has been discussion regarding people not hearing electric cars coming up behind them because they are too quiet. However, we walk and bike a lot and can hear the road noise of most cars, including electric cars.
Zero Air Pollution: Electric cars produce zero air pollution while driving around. As you can see here, here, and here, for example, car induced air pollution is not a good thing. One of the best things you as an individual can do is to make wise transportation choices.
No Oil Changes, No Spills: For those of us performing our own oil changes, yahoo! Changing oil is one messy job. For most of us, no matter how careful we are, some oil is going to spill. It may run down the street and into some stream eventually. You may just wipe it up, either way it is a mess. Then you have to dispose of the waste oil. No oil changes are needed for electric cars or trucks and no spills...therefore this definitely comes under advantages of electric car.
No Leakers: One of the little mentioned aspects of gas powered cars and trucks is that after tens or hundreds of thousands of miles or tens or twenty years or so, oil seals crack and oil quietly leaks and then drips all over the ground. Just look at any parking lot on a warm day. This oil can also wash into the water you may drink one day.
Fun, the EV Grin: There is a certain look described by most EVers as the "EV Grin". Its hard to describe, but most people that get behind the wheel of an electric car break into this funny look like stepping in front of a camera. When you turn the key, nothing happens. There is something cool about the silent power you are driving.
No OPEC Support: At the present time, when you own and drive an EV you are contributing to something other than OPEC - Organization of Oil Exporters - and the multitude of their henchmen the world over. Electric cars are a step up the evolutionary ladder from some of these Neanderthals.
Future Now: Electric cars are the future now. They are getting a slow start off the line here, but they will become more and more prevalent as time goes on. Electric cars offer exciting possibilities such as feeding their excess power back into the grid during peak need times. Gas powered cars only offer the same old pollution and depletion of resources.
